Games of the Day

It an all Peralta match-up as Freddy Peralta of the Brewers takes on Wily Peralta of the Tigers. Freddy, who is pitching extremely well this season with a 2.69 ERA, is only the third on the Cy Young Points list among the Brewers starters. Wily managed to limit hits despite just 44 K in 70 innings.

Drew Rasmussen of the Rays gets the start against Jose Berrios of the Blue Jays. Rasmussen split time between starting and relieving, but does not appear to be an opener as he averages nearly four innings per start. He posts a 2.33 ERA in the starting role. Berrios proved to be a good acquisition for the Toronto, 4-2 with a 3.63 ERA since joining the team.

Boston sends Nathan Eovaldi against the Mariners and Tyler Anderson. Eovaldi allowed nine of his 14 home runs on the road this season, with only 57 1/3 of his 163 2/3 innings coming away. Nice job by the Red Sox of taking advantage of Eovaldi’s home field advantage. Anderson’s strength lies in his control, with just 32 walks in 148 innings.

Enjoy!

Games of the Day

The Dodgers visit the Marlins with Walker Buehler taking on Trevor Rogers. Buehler stands 8-1 with a 2.35 ERA having walked just 22 batters in 103 1/3 innings. Rogers 2.14 ERA comes from preventing home runs, having allowed just five long balls in 92 1/3 innings.

The Tigers and Rangers send Wily Peralta and Kolby Allard to the mound in Texas. Peralta returned to the majors after missing the 2020 season, and so far so good as he owns a 3.21 ERA. He allowed just 10 hits in 14 innings. Allard splits time between starting and relieving, but in both situations he limits walks, just 11 BB in 52 innings.

Enjoy!

Beat the Streak Picks

For the past few years Baseball Musings tried to help with playing Beat the Streak. The Day by Day Database keeps track of hit streak of at least five games. In addition, two programs produce top ten lists of players with a high probability of a hit.

Here are the top picks my programs produced for use in Beat the Streak. This post mostly explains the ideas behind the calculations. In addition, this post shows tests on the Neural Network (NN). This post discusses an NN that includes the ballpark. I updated the models, and the results of those tests are here.

Here are the Log5 Method picks:

Note that the Astros and Tigers play a doubleheader today, and seven innings means fewer chances to get a hit. It might be a good day to skip Brantley. Alternatively, you can double down with him and hope he plays both games.

Wong owns a low strikeout rate for this era, and someone who puts the ball in play more often has more opportunities to find a hole.

Here are the NN picks:

Wong does not make this list. Brantley against Peralta is the consensus first pick, with Arraez the consensus second pick. The two systems give very different results today.

You can follow the NN results on this spreadsheet. I do not guarantee results. Your best pick is going to have about a 25% chance of not getting a hit. Good luck!

Beat the Streak Picks

Here are the top picks my programs produced for use in Beat the Streak. This post mostly explains the ideas behind the calculations. In addition, this post shows tests on the Neural Network (NN). This post discusses an NN that includes the ballpark. I recently update the models, and the results of those tests are here.

First, the Log5 Method picks:

0.328 — Jose Altuve batting against Kendall Graveman
0.325 — Yadier Molina batting against Wily Peralta
0.319 — Stephen Piscotty batting against Wily Peralta
0.317 — Daniel Murphy batting against Jerad Eickhoff
0.311 — Danny Valencia batting against Collin McHugh
0.307 — Brandon Phillips batting against Jered Weaver
0.306 — Trea Turner batting against Jerad Eickhoff
0.305 — Corey Seager batting against Tyler Anderson
0.303 — Jhonny Peralta batting against Wily Peralta
0.302 — Ryan Braun batting against Adam Wainwright

Jhonny Peralta versus Wily Peralta? Peralta fans can only win!

The NN produces this list:

0.328, 0.771 — Jose Altuve batting against Kendall Graveman.
0.317, 0.751 — Daniel Murphy batting against Jerad Eickhoff.
0.305, 0.742 — Corey Seager batting against Tyler Anderson.
0.306, 0.724 — Trea Turner batting against Jerad Eickhoff.
0.291, 0.723 — Francisco Lindor batting against Andrew Albers.
0.300, 0.723 — Devon Travis batting against Ubaldo Jimenez.
0.311, 0.722 — Danny Valencia batting against Collin McHugh.
0.277, 0.722 — Mookie Betts batting against Jake Odorizzi.
0.307, 0.718 — Brandon Phillips batting against Jered Weaver.
0.325, 0.718 — Yadier Molina batting against Wily Peralta.
0.278, 0.718 — Yunel Escobar batting against Timothy Adleman.

It’s looking like another Jose Altuve night.

The NN with park factored in produces this result:

0.328, 0.771 — Jose Altuve batting against Kendall Graveman.
0.317, 0.753 — Daniel Murphy batting against Jerad Eickhoff.
0.305, 0.742 — Corey Seager batting against Tyler Anderson.
0.306, 0.730 — Trea Turner batting against Jerad Eickhoff.
0.325, 0.727 — Yadier Molina batting against Wily Peralta.
0.291, 0.727 — Francisco Lindor batting against Andrew Albers.
0.311, 0.726 — Danny Valencia batting against Collin McHugh.
0.277, 0.726 — Mookie Betts batting against Jake Odorizzi.
0.300, 0.726 — Devon Travis batting against Ubaldo Jimenez.
0.307, 0.724 — Brandon Phillips batting against Jered Weaver.

It’s nice to see the youngsters filtering to the top of the list, with Corey Seager and Trea Turner the 3rd and 4th choices. Altuve and Murphy once again come up 1-2. Note that DJ LeMahieu, despite battling Murphy for the batting title, is not on the list as often as Altuve and Murphy. That’s due to LeMahieu’s higher walk rate. Plate appearances that result in walks are PA that can’t result in hits, so the probability of LeMahieu getting a hit is lower than Murphy’s, even though they have nearly the same batting average.

As always, your best picks are going to fail to get a hit about 75% of the time.

0.347 — Starling Marte batting against Wily Peralta
0.329 — Josh Harrison batting against Wily Peralta
0.328 — Daniel Murphy batting against Ubaldo Jimenez
0.325 — Devon Travis batting against Jered Weaver
0.323 — Adam Frazier batting against Wily Peralta
0.310 — Gregory Polanco batting against Wily Peralta
0.309 — David Freese batting against Wily Peralta
0.309 — J.D. Martinez batting against Jose Berrios
0.308 — Josh Bell batting against Wily Peralta
0.306 — Miguel Cabrera batting against Jose Berrios
0.305 — Trea Turner batting against Ubaldo Jimenez

Wily Peralta promises a good day for the Pirates hitters. The red hot Trea Turner makes the list.

The NN produces this list:

0.328, 0.756 — Daniel Murphy batting against Ubaldo Jimenez.
0.347, 0.747 — Starling Marte batting against Wily Peralta.
0.325, 0.739 — Devon Travis batting against Jered Weaver.
0.289, 0.738 — Corey Seager batting against Matt Moore.
0.290, 0.731 — Dee Gordon batting against Edinson Volquez.
0.306, 0.730 — Miguel Cabrera batting against Jose Berrios.
0.329, 0.729 — Josh Harrison batting against Wily Peralta.
0.309, 0.727 — J.D. Martinez batting against Jose Berrios.
0.284, 0.724 — Paulo Orlando batting against Thomas Koehler.
0.293, 0.723 — Martin Prado batting against Edinson Volquez.

The two methods combined like Daniel Murphy and Starling Marte.

With parks factored into the NN, the list is modified like this:

0.328, 0.757 — Daniel Murphy batting against Ubaldo Jimenez.
0.347, 0.753 — Starling Marte batting against Wily Peralta.
0.325, 0.743 — Devon Travis batting against Jered Weaver.
0.289, 0.739 — Corey Seager batting against Matt Moore.
0.329, 0.737 — Josh Harrison batting against Wily Peralta.
0.306, 0.734 — Miguel Cabrera batting against Jose Berrios.
0.309, 0.732 — J.D. Martinez batting against Jose Berrios.
0.290, 0.731 — Dee Gordon batting against Edinson Volquez.
0.301, 0.728 — Jean Segura batting against Matt Wisler.
0.284, 0.728 — Paulo Orlando batting against Thomas Koehler.

Harrison moves up, Gordon moves down, and Marte gets above the .75 mark in probability. It looks like Murphy and Marte are indeed the best picks. As always, your best picks are going to fail 25% of the time. Good luck!

Beat the Streak Picks

Here are the top picks my programs produced for use in Beat the Streak. This post mostly explains the ideas behind the calculations. In addition, this post shows tests on the Neural Network (NN).

First, the Log5 Method picks:

0.342 — Yoenis Cespedes batting against Wily Peralta
0.334 — Juan Lagares batting against Wily Peralta
0.328 — Neil Walker batting against Wily Peralta
0.327 — James Loney batting against Wily Peralta
0.323 — Wilmer Flores batting against Wily Peralta
0.320 — Asdrubal Cabrera batting against Wily Peralta
0.309 — Xander Bogaerts batting against Kyle Gibson
0.307 — Matt Reynolds batting against Wily Peralta
0.300 — Daniel Murphy batting against Aaron Nola
0.297 — Michael Conforto batting against Wily Peralta

Today is the day to take anyone on the Mets.

The NN provides a more varied list:

0.283, 0.742 — Jose Altuve batting against Chris Archer.
0.309, 0.739 — Xander Bogaerts batting against Kyle Gibson.
0.327, 0.736 — James Loney batting against Wily Peralta.
0.278, 0.736 — Lorenzo Cain batting against Jose Quintana.
0.300, 0.734 — Daniel Murphy batting against Aaron Nola.
0.342, 0.734 — Yoenis Cespedes batting against Wily Peralta.
0.261, 0.731 — Josh Harrison batting against Carlos Martinez.
0.293, 0.731 — Eduardo Nunez batting against Eduardo Rodriguez.
0.281, 0.730 — Robinson Cano batting against Colby Lewis.
0.296, 0.728 — Francisco Lindor batting against Matthew Shoemaker.

If you refuse to pick someone on the Mets, Bogaerts and ex-Met Murphy appear to be the best bets. There are some very good pitchers on the mound today, which is why the Log5 list is so skewed toward Peralta, who turns all batters into Daniel Murphy.

Beat the Streak Picks

Here are the top picks my programs produced for use in Beat the Streak. This post mostly explains the ideas behind the calculations. In addition, this post shows tests on the Neural Network (NN).

First, the Log5 Method picks:

0.344 — Odubel Herrera batting against Wily Peralta
0.332 — Daniel Murphy batting against Jon Moscot
0.328 — Carlos Gonzalez batting against Luis Perdomo
0.324 — Aledmys Diaz batting against Jake Peavy
0.324 — Andres Blanco batting against Wily Peralta
0.323 — Jimmy Paredes batting against Wily Peralta
0.323 — Cameron Rupp batting against Wily Peralta
0.321 — DJ LeMahieu batting against Luis Perdomo
0.321 — Stephen Piscotty batting against Jake Peavy
0.319 — Charlie Blackmon batting against Luis Perdomo

Wily Peralta and Jake Peavy look like the pitchers of the day for allowing hits. Three of Peavy’s last four starts were good, however. Peralta consistently gives up more hits than innings pitched.

Now the NN picks:

0.344, 0.742 — Odubel Herrera batting against Wily Peralta.
0.290, 0.739 — Jose Altuve batting against Sonny Gray.
0.332, 0.738 — Daniel Murphy batting against Jon Moscot.
0.273, 0.737 — Miguel Cabrera batting against Jose Quintana.
0.278, 0.729 — Ian Kinsler batting against Jose Quintana.
0.323, 0.726 — Jimmy Paredes batting against Wily Peralta.
0.305, 0.725 — Nick Hundley batting against Luis Perdomo.
0.286, 0.725 — Robinson Cano batting against Derek Holland.
0.321, 0.724 — Stephen Piscotty batting against Jake Peavy.
0.297, 0.723 — Yunel Escobar batting against Gerrit Cole.

The NN agrees with log5 on Odubel Herrera owning the best probability of getting a hit today. The net is also not as down on Jake Peavy, and a little more down on Jose Quintana.

Beat the Streak Picks

Here are the top picks my program produced for use in Beat the Streak. This post mostly explains the ideas behind the calculations. In addition, this post shows tests on the Neural Network (NN).

First, the log5 list:

0.362 — Stephen Piscotty batting against Wily Peralta
0.356 — Aledmys Diaz batting against Wily Peralta
0.342 — Matthew Adams batting against Wily Peralta
0.326 — Greg Garcia batting against Wily Peralta
0.324 — Yadier Molina batting against Wily Peralta
0.318 — Eric Fryer batting against Wily Peralta
0.310 — Jose Altuve batting against Patrick Corbin
0.306 — Matt Holliday batting against Wily Peralta
0.305 — Jeff Francoeur batting against Jake Peavy
0.303 — Tommy Pham batting against Wily Peralta

Log5 wants to bat against Wily Peralta!

Here is the NN list:

0.310, 0.762 — Jose Altuve batting against Patrick Corbin.
0.362, 0.745 — Stephen Piscotty batting against Wily Peralta.
0.297, 0.742 — Francisco Lindor batting against Colby Lewis.
0.302, 0.737 — Xander Bogaerts batting against Kevin Gausman.
0.342, 0.734 — Matthew Adams batting against Wily Peralta.
0.299, 0.734 — Daniel Murphy batting against Aaron Nola.
0.249, 0.731 — Buster Posey batting against Matthew R Wisler.
0.302, 0.729 — Eduardo Nunez batting against Eric Surkamp.
0.261, 0.729 — Josh Harrison batting against Jose D Fernandez.
0.295, 0.724 — Danny Valencia batting against Tyler B Duffey.

The NN is not as hung up on Wily Peralta. Both system like Stephen Piscotty as a pick. Good luck!

Games of the Day

Masahiro Tanaka returns to the mound after months of rehabilitation on his elbow as the Yankees host the Blue Jays. Tanaka pitched impressively well for New York in his 18 starts, and we’ll see today if he’s strong or if he blows out his arm.

Wily Peralta tries to win the rubber game for the Brewers as they face the Pirates and Vance Worley. Peralta allowed just eight of his 23 home runs on the road this season. Worley hit just three batters this season, so if he goes after someone in the Brewers lineup early in retaliation for Andrew McCutchen being hit twice on Saturday, it’s probably not an accident.

The Tigers look to sweep the Royals as they send Rick Porcello against Jeremy Guthrie. Procello owns a 2.18 ERA against the Royals, with one home run allowed and just three walks allowed in 20 2/3 innings. Guthrie allowed the Tigers 22 hits in 13 1/3 innings over three starts, helping him to a 10.13 ERA against Detroit this year.

To the Tigers credit, they stepped up when need and have won four of five September games from the Royals.

The Cardinals play the late ESPN game against the Reds. If the Brewers win, then St. Louis can clinch a playoff spot with a victory. If the Brewers lose, the St. Louis clinches, and a win moves them closer to a division victory.

Enjoy!

September 16, 2014

Games of the Day

It could be mid-Atlantic clinch night as both the Orioles and Nationals can clinch their divisions with wins. The Blue Jays send Drew Hutchison against Ubaldo Jimenez. Hutchinson, who recently turned 24, may be coming into his own. In his last four starts, he struck out 32 and walked just seven in 25 1/3 innings. I suspect that Orioles fans would have been happy to know Jimenez would be pitching the clinching game back at the start of the season, but his 70 walks in 114 1/3 innings leaves something to be desired.

Tanner Roark takes on Aaron Harang as the Nationals attempt to clinch their second NL East title in three years. Roark pitched like an ace this season with a 2.96 ERA and excellent walk numbers. Harang had a surprisingly good season given his 5.40 ERA in 2013. He only allowed 12 home runs this year after giving up 26 in forty fewer innings in 2013.

Johnny Cueto keeps trying to make his case for the Cy Young Award as he faces the Cubs and Jake Arrieta. A win would match his 2012 total of 19, the most he’s had in a single season.

Milwaukee gets a last chance to gain ground on the Cardinals as Wily Peralta takes on Lance Lynn. Peralta is 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA against the Cardinals this season, allowing just seven walks in 26 innings. Lynn has not allowed a home run to the Brewers in 18 innings, helping him to a 2.00 ERA against the division rivals.

Enjoy!

September 10, 2014

Games of the Day

The Washington Nationals attempt to sweep the Braves and all but assure themselves an NL East Title as Aaron Harang takes on Stephen Straburg in Washington.

The Yankees will be without Brett Gardner, who has an abdominal strain as they host the Rays New York’s playoff hopes fading fast.

Vance Worely takes on Jerome Williams as the Pirates try to solidify their Wild Card lead (for the 2nd slot) against the Phillies.

The Royals try to avoid a sweep by the Tigers as James Shields battles Rick Porcello.

Jarred Cosart found his control after he joined Miami, and he tries to help bring the Marlins back into the playoff picture as they go for a sweep of the Brewers. Milwaukee sends Wily Peralta to the mound.

Enjoy!

September 4, 2014 August 1, 2014

Game of the Day

The one game I really like today pits Wily Peralta of the Brewers against Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals. Milwaukee leads St. Louis by two games as the teams open a three game series under the Gateway Arch. Peralta already exceeded his 2013 win total, 12 to 11, with nine fewer losses. His strikeouts are up and his walks are down. He’s getting a ton of ground balls, and I wonder if his defense is playing better behind him, as his BABIP is down as well. Part of his success is comes from situations, as he allowed a .196/.276/.355 slash line with men in scoring position this year, .263/.345/374 last season.

Wainwright’s strikeouts are down lately, but it hasn’t hurt his ERA much. It’s a sign to me that something might be wrong. Milwaukee is the second highest scoring team in the NL, so this will be a big challenge for the Cy Young contender.

Enjoy!

July 21, 2014

Games of the Day

Cliff Lee returns to the mound as the Giants and Ryan Vogelsong visit the Phillies. The road can’t save Ryan from home runs, as seven of his eight HR allowed came away from San Francisco. Lee missed two months of the season with an elbow strain. He was showing his typical great control before, however, walking just nine in 68 innings.

The Reds try to recover from the Yankees sweep as they send Mat Latos against division leader Milwaukee (tied with the Cardinals). Wily Peralta takes the hill for the Brewers. Latos has been tough on batters in his first six starts, holding them to a .176/.215/.294 slash line. While it’s difficult for batters to get on, once there Matt does give up hits, as two of his three homers led to multiple runs. Peralta only pitched two quality starts in his last eight games, but still managed to go 6-1.

Enjoy!

May 31, 2014

Games of the Day

The Royals game against the Blue Jays has slugfest written all over it as Aaron Brooks and Marcus Stroman posted poor numbers in their short major league careers. Brooks showed great control in the minor league, and Stroman blew batters away.

The Cubs and Brewers continue their series with Jason Hammel facing Wily Peralta. Hammel is keeping both his hits and walks low, with a WHIP of just 0.90. Peralta might have thought he was pitching for the Cubs in May, with a 1.69 ERA and a 1-3 record.

Finally, Johnny Cueto brings his 1.83 ERA against the Diamondbacks and Brandon McCarthy. Cueto is the leading candidate for the Cy Young award this year, and part of that is 85 K and just 20 walks in 83 2/3 innings. McCarthy stands just 1-6 this season. He has great strikeout and walk numbers, 59 K and 12 walks in 68 1/3 innings. He gave up a ton of hits, however, 74, which may indicate poor defense behind him. Twenty nine of those hits went for extra bases, so batters hitting the ball hard means it’s not just the fielders.

Enjoy!

May 19, 2014

Games of the Day

First meets last as the Tigers send Drew Smyly against the Indians and Corey Kluber. The Tigers are threatening to run away with the AL Central, with a seven game lead over the Royals. They’ve won 11 in a row on the road, the starters posting a 2.15 ERA in that stretch. That includes two very nice outings by Smyly. Kluber shows excellent control, but despite a low walk rate and a high K rate, he gives up a high number of hits.

Mike Leake battles Stephen Strasburg as the Reds visit the Nationals. Leake had some trouble on the road this season, all six of the home runs he allowed coming away from Cincinnati. Strasburg pitches well, but his ERA should be in the low twos, not the middle threes. He’s giving up a .371 BABIP. While that can be attributed to bad luck, or bad defense, I’m not quite sure. For example, opposing pitchers are hitting .312 against him with a .353 OBP. A slot that should be a sure out is turning into a second lead-off hitter. He’s also getting hammered in the first inning, opponents batting .395/.409/.605 against him, with three home runs allowed. I wonder if he’s not concentrating against the opposing pitchers he faces, and if he has an early game pitching pattern that hitters have recognized.

First place teams square off in Atlanta as Wily Peralta leads the Brewers against the Braves and Mike Minor. Peralta kept both his hits and walks down this season, holding batters to a .278 OBP. He’s pitched very little on the road so far this season, however. Minor is off to a great start since returning to the rotation in terms of walks and strikeouts, but he has allowed three home runs in 17 innings. All of them were solo shots, however.

Enjoy!

April 27, 2014

Games of the Day

The Reds and Braves send Johnny Cueto and Julio Teheran to the mound Sunday. Despite serious injuries to their starting rotation, the Braves come into the game with a 1.65 ERA by their starting staff. Their average game score is five points higher than the nearest competitor, and they’ve turned in 18 quality starts. That’s certainly turning lemons into lemonade.

Jason Hammel tries to get the Cubs a win on the road as he face Wily Peralta, super genius.

Both starters exhibit great control, which has allowed them to post good ERAs despite a high rate of home runs allowed.

The latest Pirates reclamation project, Edinson Volquez, bring his sub-2.00 ERA to St. Louis to face Adam Wainwright. Volquez’s 1.93 ERA is impressive, but Wainwright’s is nearly half a run lower.

Finally, Garrett Richards and the Angels take on Masahiro Tanaka and the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball. Richards stands tall on two legs of the three-true outcomes stool, having not allowed a home run while striking out 24 batters in 25 innings. He has walked 14, however. Tanaka also excels at two of the outcomes, with 35 K and 2 BB in 29 1/3 innings. His four home runs allowed is a bit high, but he’s only allowed eight runs over all.

Enjoy!

April 11, 2014

Games of the Day

Scott Feldman is off to a great start for the Astros in terms of ERA as he faces his old team, the TExas Rangers and their ace, Yu Darvish. Feldman allowed very few hits so far, which is unusual as he strikes out few batters. His line drive percentage is low at the moment, and no balls left the park against him. Darvish appeared fully recovered from his injury as he struck out six batters in seven innings and did not allow a run.

Pittsburgh visits Milwaukee as the NL Central rivals battle for first place in the division. Francisco Liriano takes on Wily Peralta. Liriano is striking out a ton of batters again, but his none on/men on splits are extreme. He’s allowing a .375 OBP with the bases empty, but once men are on base, batters hit just .136/.259/.136 against him. Peralta can be a bit wild at times, so we’ll see if the Pirates can wait him out.

Finally, Rick Porcello and Andrew Cashner square off as the Tigers visit the Padres. The Tigers have used four starters so far this season, Porcello the last to get his second start. While his ERA is somewhat typical of a back of a rotation starter, he shows good and control and does a pretty good job of keeping the ball in the park. He does suffer with men on base, however. Cashner pitched a dozen marvelous innings so far this year, but no wins to show for it. His pitch usage shows him throwing the change-up more selectively, depending more on his fastball. So far, it’s working.

Enjoy!

September 10, 2013

No-No Alert

Wily Peralta comes out for the sixth inning working on a no-hitter against the Cardinals. He walked one batter. He’s not getting any offensive support, however, as there is no score in the game.

Update: Peralta walks another batter in the sixth, then with two out, Matt Holliday goes deep to break up the no-hitter and give St. Louis a 2-0 lead.

April 16, 2013

Games of the Day

The Red Sox travel to Cleveland for the first game pitting former manager Terry Francona against his old pitching coach John Farrell. Felix Doubront faces Ubaldo Jimenez. Neither is off to a great start in terms of ERA, but both are striking out batters at a good clip.

There are a few interleague games this Tuesday, the best of the group featuring Kansas City at Atlanta as Jeremy Guthrie tries to stop Kris Medlen from extending the Braves winning streak. Guthrie won his first two starts despite allowing three home runs. He walked just two batters in 11 innings to help keep the bases empty. Medlen walked more than he struck out, but has yet to allow a long ball. In his brief career he allowed just 24 homers in 327 2/3 innings.

Barry Zito, in the last year of his Giants contract, has yet to allow a run as he takes on Wily Peralta and the Brewers. Zito is holding right-handed batters to a .220/.238/.293 slash line. With San Francisco through 2012, RHB hit .263/.343/.425 against him. Peralta continues to be a high walk, high K pitcher.

Enjoy!

September 27, 2012

Games of the Day

The Brewers need a win to stay in the playoff hunt, and the Reds still have a chance at best record in the NL as Wily Peralta takes on Mat Latos.

R.A. Dickey goes for his 20th win as the Mets host the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates can only lose one more game in order to finish over .500.

Oakland can close the gap with Texas to two games with a win against Texas. Travis Blackley Takes on Matt Harrison. The teams play the final three game series against each other.

Finally, James Shields and the Rays travel to Chicago for a four-game series against the White Sox and Jake Peavy. Both teams are fighting for their playoff lives, so this could be a great series.

Enjoy!

September 22, 2012

Games of the Day

The Athletics and Yankees continue their series, Oakland sending Travis Blackley to try even the series against Ivan Nova.

Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals take on the Cubs and Travis Wood. Wainwright pitched better in the second half, with a 3.25 ERA in 13 starts.

Milwaukee goes for thier seventh win in a row as Wily Peralta takes on Gio Gonzalez in Washington. Peralta has yet to allow a home run in his rookie season, while Gonzalez goes for his 20th win.

The Dodgers and Reds offer a nice matchup as Stephen Fife takes on Mat Latos. Fife is wild, but it hasn’t hurt his ERA yet. The Reds seem to have won the Latos for Edinson Volquez trade.

The Brandon Morrow/Matt Moore match-up could be great or could be terrible, depending on which version of the pitchers show up. The Rays the win against the Blue Jays to stay in the race.

Finally, the White Sox try to even their series against the Angels as Jose Quintana takes on Dan Haren. Haren hasn’t found his groove yet, and is a big reason the Angels are looking up at the Rangers and Athletics. The White Sox need a win to keep fending off the Tigers

Enjoy!
