My thoughts go out to the Duncan family on the passing of Jeanine Duncan, wife of catcher and coach Dave Duncan and mother of major leaguers Chris Duncan and Shelly Duncan.

Shelley Shells Verlander
Shelly Duncan just hit his second two-run homer of the game off Justin Verlander to give the Indians a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth. The home run gives Duncan two multi-homer games in his last four played. Half his home runs this year came in the last four days!
Verlander’s only weakness, and it’s slight, is allowing home runs. He’s now given up 22 long balls in 227 innings. Thirteen of those were solo shots.
Something’s Up with the Duncans
Both Dave Duncan and son Shelley Duncan left their teams for personal reasons. I hope whatever they are dealing with ends well for the family.
Update: Dave Duncan’s wife underwent major surgery on Sunday.
Evil Player
The Evil Player program selected Shelly Duncan as Thursday’s evil player. Duncan was trained by the evil steroid user Mark McGwire, and in many ways Shelly is a McGwire clone. His batting average counts for very little of his offensive value, but he draws a good number of walks and owns a high isolated power. Neither, however, were at a high enough rate to come close to his mentor or to make him an every day major league players.
Duncan Dingers
Shelley Duncan delivered two home runs as the Indians downed the Angels 4-3. Duncan came into the game with a slugging percentage under .400, but the homers raised that up to .438. That number still represents low power, but it’s not for lack of home runs. He’s hitting one every 19 at bats, which is a decent rate. Shelley is not hitting for a high enough average to get his slugging percentage up.
