The Twins look like they got a steal by signing Marwin Gonzalez to a two-year, $21 million contract. FanGraphs has him at a total of 5.9 WAR over the last three seasons, while Baseball Reference puts him at 8.1 WAR. Splitting the difference yields seven WAR in the three-year span, or 2 1/3 per season. Take 10% off for next year, and the Twins should be looking at around 4.4 WAR, worth nearly $40 million at $9 million per WAR. The Twins are paying $4.7 million per WAR. If Gonzalez posts 2 1/3 WAR this year, he pays for the contract. A very good deal for Minnesota.

Down, But Out
Marwin Gonzalez hits a solo home run with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to put the Astros on the board. With David Price out of the game, Houston finally scores a run. The Red Sox lead 4-1.
Update: Tony Kemp draws a walk to keep the inning alive. Nathan Eovaldi comes on to pitch.
Update: Josh Reddick puts a good swing on an Eovaldi pitch, but it goes for a long fly ball and the third out. The Red Sox are six outs away from a trip to the World Series.
Marwin Down
Steve Pearce doubles off the scoreboard in leftfield, and Marwin Gonzalez injures himself trying to make the catch. He banged into the scoreboard with his back, and was down on the grass for a while. He is up now.
The Red Sox have runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the third, Houston leading 4-2. Gonzalez stays in the game.
Update: Rafael Devers walks to load the bases.
Update: Ian Kinsler strikes out.
Update: Jackie Bradley, Jr. delivers a three-run double into the leftfield corner and the Red Sox lead 5-4. There is a challenge if it was a ground-rule double.
Update: The ball was in play, 5-4 Boston over Houston.
Update: A strikeout ends the inning. Looks like this might be a high-scoring game.
Marwinning RBI
With Yuli Gurriel on first, Marwin Gonzalez hits a two-run homer off the billboard above the Green Monster. The Astros now lead the Red Sox 4-2 in the middle of the third inning. That seven RBI in five 2018 post-season games for Gonzalez.
You’re Going to Get Tired of All the Marwinning
Marwin Gonzalez comes up with the bases loaded an one out in the top of the seventh, the game tied at two after two Indians errors in the inning. Gonzalez doubles down the leftfield line to drive in two runs and give the Astros a 4-2 lead. Gonzalez now has six hits, two doubles, and four RBI in the series. The Indians really have their backs to the wall now.
Update: The Astros load the bases again, but the Indians get out of the inning with only the three runs allowed. It’s up to the offense now to bring them back.
Astros Take the Lead
Marwin Gonzalez doubles in two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Astros get to Andrew Miller, and Houston takes a 2-1 lead. It’s could have been worse, however, as they wound up with the bases loaded and one out, and failed to score. The Astros hit .308/.321/.556 with the bases loaded during the regular season.
Marwin for the Tie
Marwin Gonzalez leads off the top of the ninth inning with a home run off Kenley Jansen. The Astros tie the Dodgers at three, and Jansen blows the save.
The Astros have put the lead-off man on in seven of the nine inning played tonight.
Update: With two out, George Springer doubles. The Astros have the go-ahead run in scoring position.
Update: Alex Bregman grounds out to short to end the inning. The Dodgers send their 2-3-4 hitters up in the bottom of the ninth.
Marwin the Eighth I Am
Marwin Gonzalez does what he does best, drive in runs from the eighth slot in the batting order. Gonzalez led the Astros in RBI despite batting eighth. He just drove a ball off the wall with two on in the bottom of the fourth to put the Astros back in the lead, 4-2.
This was probably the first song I remember on the radio.
Astros Clinch
Houston pounded the Mariners 7-1 on Sunday, the win earning the Astros the AL West flag. Marwin Gonzalez, playing for a resting Jose Altuve, continued the excellent hitting by Astros second basemen with a double and a home run. Justin Verlander continued to show why the Astros wanted him as he limits Seattle to three hits and one run, walking one and striking out 10. He is 3-0 in three starts with the Astros and allowed two runs in 21 innings.
The Astros did this season what they could not do in 2015, so the stamina to stay on top. They are going to be very tough in the playoffs as their youngsters have matured into a great offense and a good pitching staff.
Astros Making Lists
Two players for the Astros came off the active roster on Friday:
The Houston Astros have placed pitcher Kyle Weiland on the 15-day disabled list and infielder Marwin Gonzalez on the paternity list.
Weiland has bursitis in his right shoulder. His stint on the DL is retroactive to Wednesday.
We should find a stat to name after Marwin, like Maternity Above Replacement Win. 🙂
