Devon Young writes about a comparison between the Houston Astros and the 1899 Cleveland Spiders:
Actually, that’s a better analogy than you might’ve realized….
June 28 – September 2
9-55 Spiders (1899)
9-50 Astros (2012)…and Houston’s next 6 games visits to Pittsburgh & Cincinnati. In all my checking, I found 1 team that fits into this level of bad… the 1916 Philadelphia A’s.
May 24 – August 8, 1916, the A’s went 6-63.
I believe that’s the absolute worst by any team since the Spiders went 9-79 from June 30 – October 15, 1899.
Thanks, Devon! The Spiders weren’t trying to win, either.
