The Red Sox acquired pitcher Andrew Cashner from the Orioles, giving up two 17-year-olds, Elio Prado and Noelberth Romero:
Romero and Prado, both 17, made their professional debuts in the Dominican Summer League. Romero, an infielder, hit .264 with two home runs in 29 games, while Prado, an outfielder, hit .303 with nine steals and 26 runs scored in 33 games.

So the Orioles are not looking short term with this trade.
Cashner is a low strikeout, low walk pitcher, so he needs a good defense behind him. The Orioles have the worst defense in the league, so one would think that this move should help Cashner.
