Closing the Mets

The Mets closer situation is in flex due to swelling in Frank Francisco‘s knee:

Terry Collins told reporters after the game that he is concerned about Francisco’s condition, which he said the team initially thought was patella tendinitis. He also said he doesn’t yet know who he will use to replace Francisco in the closer’s role, in the event he needs to start the season on the DL.

However, in Puma’s opinion, Jon Rauch would likely move into the closer’s role, “though Bobby Parnell might warrant consideration based on a spring in which he has a 0.00 ERA over 11 appearances.”

Rauch has experience closing. Parnell did some last season as well. Bobby is better at blowing away batters with strikeouts, Jon exhibits better control. Both throw right-handed, so there doesn’t seem to be a bad choice here.
