Joaquin Andujar dies at the too young age of 62:
Fellow Dominican and former big-league pitcher Mario Soto told ESPN Deportes that Andujar had been suffering from diabetes for years and died Tuesday in his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Andujar was a late bloomer, his best stretch of seasons occuring from seasonal age 29 through 32. In that time he had success pitching to contact, with low strike out and walk rates, and a very low home run rate. His big moment was the 1982 World Series, going 2-0 for the Cardinals with a 1.34 ERA.
Here is my favorite Start-o-Matic story, which involves Andjuar.
