Players A to Z, Eric Bruntlett

Eric Bruntlett served as a utility player for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009. He played all seven non-battery positions. He is currently a free agent. In Bruntlett’s seven year career he’s shown himself to be a poor hitter who doesn’t get on base and can’t hit for power. The triple whammy. His last two seasons for the Astros, his age 28 and 29 seasons, he did do a good job of getting on base, posting .351 and .346 OBPs in consecutive seasons. Since joining the Phillies, however, he’s been below .300, with an abysmal .224 OBP in 2009 in just 105 at bats. It’s possible the fact that he can play anywhere will earn him a job in 2010, but offensively, he’s an out machine with nothing to make up for this lack of getting on base.
