Players A to Z, Jamie Burke

Jamie Burke players catcher as a reserve, most recently for the Washington Nationals. In seven seasons in the majors, Burke accumulated just 390 at bats, or about 55 a season. That’s too bad, because he hits decently for a catcher. He brings no power to the table, but has managed a .277 BA and .328 OBP for his career.

Those days appear to be behind him, however. Burke did not reach the majors until his age 29 season, and at age 38 his slash line came in at .118/.164/.176. That’s pitcher territory (something Burke did in 2008, giving up one earned run in one inning for the Marienrs). It looks like his very short career is on the edge of extinction.
