Players A to Z, Chris Coste

Chris Coste played catcher for the Phillies and Astros in 2009. He recently joined the New York Mets. Coste was in his eleventh minor league season before being called to the majors at the age of 33. Chris made a splash in 2006 with a .376 OBP and a .505 slugging percentage in 65 games. Overall, he’s hit well for a backup catcher with a slash line of .272/.329/.416. His offense tanked, however, in 2009, and at his age it’s not clear he can bounce back. I admire his persistence, however, sticking around until he finally made it to the majors. Not many people become rookies in their 30s.
