Games of the Day

The Rays take on the red hot Red Sox as Ryan Pepiot faces Brayan Bello. The Red Sox go for their tenth straight win. Both own similar ERAs, and both limit hits, but Pepiot does it with a higher K rate, while Bello seems to trade hits for walks.

The Mets send Clay Holmes against the Royals and Noah Cameron. Holmes owns a decent .313 opposition OBP, but removed 12 of those runners with GDPs and caught stealing. Cameron, in his first season, owns a 2.56 ERA in 63 1/3 innings. He held the opposition to a .199 BABIP as he takes advantage of the Royals defense.

The state of Texas Nathan Eovaldi of the Rangers against Hunter Brown of the Astros. Eovaldi allowed three earned runs in fourteen inning since his return from the illjured list. The pair is one-two in ERA in the AL among pitchers with 80 IP. (See link above.)

Games of the Day

See yesterday’s post for the Freddy Peralta matchup versus Clay Holmes as the Brewers make up a game with the Mets. There is a battle of rookies in game two as Jacob Misiorowski faces Blade Tidwell. They’ve pretty much had polar opposite starts to their careers.

Will Warren of the Yankees faces Jose Berrios of the Blue Jays. A win for the Blue Jays puts Toronto into a tie with New York for the lead in the AL East.

The Royals send Noah Cameron against the Mariners and Logan Gilbert. Cameron, with a 2.79 ERA, deserves a better record than his 2-4 mark. The rookie owns a low K rate, but batters hold a .197 BABIP against him. Gilbert blows away batters, but gets hurt by the power against him.

Games of the Day

The Nationals visit the Mets with MacKenzie Gore facing Griffin Canning. Gore owns the highest K rate in the majors (minimum 70 IP) this season, 12.90. That’s one more K per 9 IP than second place Chris Sale. Canning owns an almost identical ERA compared to Gore (Canning at 2.90, Gore at 2.87). He gets there by limiting power, with an opposition slugging percentage of .348.

The Yankees visit the Royals with Max Fried taking on Noah Cameron. It’s really a matchup of two great veterans against two hopeful rookies. Cameron owns a 0.85 ERA in his first five starts in the majors, and Fried brings a 1.78 ERA into the game. Royals fans get to see Jac Caglianone for this first time. At 6′ 5″, 250 lb., Caglianone could be Aaron Judge‘s mini me. So far, 57% of Caglianone’s balls in play were hard hit.
