Best Batter Today

Jose Ramirez of the Guardians posted the second highest game score of the day, an 81, to reclaim the top slot in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Ramirez produced an extra good night as he collected a double and two home runs in a 4-3 win over the Marlins. Coupled with the White Sox downing the Tigers 9-6, Cleveland is now just 5 1/2 games out of first place in the AL Central.

Corey Seager of the Rangers sits in second place after an 0 for 4 in a 3-2 Diamondbacks win. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of the Blue Jays ranks third, propelled by a three for four in a 5-1 win over the Cubs.

William Contreras of the Brewers took fourth place after the Brewers tagged Pirates starter Paul Skenes for four runs in four innings and go on to a 14-0 rout. Contreras singled twice and walked once. In his last fourteen games Contreras is hitting .375/.462/.750.

Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers brushes aside his latest scandal as he homered and drew two walks against his former team, but the Angels win 7-6. Ohtani raised his slugging percentage to .629.

Francisco Alvarez of the Mets posted the highest game score of the day, an 82 going three four for with a double and two home runs in a 13-5 win over the Braves. (The difference between Alvarez and Ramriez comes from Alvarez driving in two more runs and striking out one time to none.) Alvarez is having a good season getting on base, with a .347 mark. With the three extra-base hits, however, he is only slugging .414.

Best Batter Today

Juan Soto of the Padres remains atop the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. He went one for three with a double and a walk in a 6-1 win over the White Sox. Soto will finish with a five-WAR season but it was an inconsistent year. In a couple of months he hit like a superstar. In a couple of months he reached base with a lack of power. In August, he just hit poorly. He posted MVP months, but not an MVP season.

Ronald Acuna Jr.did hit consistently well through the season. His worst month came in May when he posted a .298/.372/.561 slash line. He went two for three with a double and two walks in a 5-3 win over the Nationals to sit in second place in the rankings, and likely first place in the MVP voting.

Third place belongs to Yordan Alvarez of the Astros. He singled in four trips as Houston clinched a playoff spot with a 1-0 victory over the Diamondbacks. Aaron Judge of the Yankees singled and walked in a 5-2 win over the Royals, giving the Yankees their 82nd win of the season and continuing their streak of above .500 seasons. Yandy Diaz of the Rays ranks fifth and did not start on Saturday.

Two players posted game scored of 80, the highest on Saturday. Francisco Alvarez of the Mets went two for three with two home runs and a walk in an 11-4, game two victory over the Phillies. The rookie did a poor job getting on base, but 37 of his 80 hits went for extra bases. Noelvi Marte of the Reds posted a four for five with a double and a home run in a 15-6 loss to the Cardinals. The 21-year-old rookie will wind up with a strong cup of coffee as he owns a .318/.370/.455 slash line in 34 games.
