Games of the Day

The Brewers play a split admission double header at the Cubs, Milwaukee holding an eight game lead in the NL Central. Game one features Freddy Peralta versus Cade Horton. Peralta leads the majors with fourteen wins and has a shot at 20 for the season. Horton stands 7-3 with a 3.07 ERA in his rookie season. He’s another pitcher who does a great job of limiting hits without a high K rate. He keeps his walk and home run rates low.

The Blue Jays visit the Pirates with Kevin Guasman facing Paul Skenes. Gausman pitched at least six innings in each of his last five starts, going seven innings in three of them. Skenes ran into some trouble lately, giving up four runs in two of his last three starts, with a scoreless outing in between.

Finally, the Mariners visit the Phillies with Logan Gilbert taking on Ranger Suarez. The two rank very close in ERA, Gilbert at 3.31, Suarez 3.28. Both demonstrate outstanding control. Gilbert dominates in strikeouts, Suarez at preventing home runs.

Games of the Day

The Friday afternoon Cubs game features Paul Skenes of the Pirates against Cade Horton. Skenes now ranks ninth on the Bill James Starting Pitcher Rankings, and with two of the pitchers ahead of him on the illjured list, he has a chance to move up much higher. The rookie Horton limited walks in his first 30 2/3 innings, giving up just seven.

The last game features the Giants at the Dodgers with Logan Webb taking on Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Webb is right ahead of Skenes at eighth on the list of current best starters. He brings an impressive 3.94 K/BB into the game. Note that a few Dodgers hit him well. Yamamoto now has a full season of starts and innings under his belt, 31 GS, 163 2/3 innings. That comes with a 2.64 ERA, 191 strikeouts, and just 13 home runs allowed.
