David Wright and Nick Evans turned in big afternoons as the Mets downed the Phillies 7-4. Both players collected three hits, each homering. Evans missed the cycle by a triple. Wright needed the good day as he was hitting just .184 in August coming into the game.
New York is just 5-10 against Philadelphia this season.
The Evil Player program selected Nick Evans as Wednesday’s Evil Player. Evans is so evil, that the Mets only gave his two major league at bats this season, despite a .300/.371/.540 minor league slash line this season. Maybe now that the truly evil Jeff Francoeur is gone, Evans will get a chance to play more.
Nick Evans plays outfield for the New York Mets. Evans accumulated very few major league plate appearances so far, and has done little to impress. His .247/.293/.397 slash line is poor for a corner outfielder. The most impressive thing about his offense comes from hitting 15 doubles in just 174 at bats. That would be 43 doubles over 500 at bats, which is a very nice total.
He hit for decent power in the minors. He’ll play 2010 as a 24-year-old, so we haven’t see the best from him yet. I would not mind the Mets giving him a chance to play every day to see what he can accomplish.
Right now, he’s only on the depth chart at first base, behind Daniel Murphy. With his low OBP, I don’t think he’ll hit well enough for that position.
