Saturday brought a bit of churn to the top five of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Juan Soto of the Mets remained on top, going two for five with his 40th home run of the season in a 3-2 Rangers win. Corey Seager of Rangers remained out of the lineup and sits in fourth place.
Julio Rodriguez of the Mariners moved into second place with a double and a walk in a 5-3 win over the Angels. Brice Turang of the Brewers dropped to third place after a drawing a walk in five plate appearances in a 9-8, 10 inning, walk-off win against the Cardinals. His teammate, Jackson Chourio, moved into the fifth as he reached base three times with two singles and a walk.
The best game score of the day came off the bat of Troy Johnston of the Marlins, a 74. The seasonal age 28 rookie went two for four with two home runs and a walk in the 6-4 win over the Tigers. Johnston hit very well at AA, but at AAA he got on base decently but with little power. Those are not the stats most teams want for a first baseman. Only six of his 22 hits went for extra-bases so far in the majors.
