Every once in a while I like to take a look to see who is hitting .400 in at least ten PA. After a one for four Thursday afternoon, Charles Leblanc of the Marlins holds a .410 BA in 39 at bats. That’s a pretty good start to a major league career.
Leblanc’s minor league career showed no indication that he would be a high average hitter until this season. In six minor league season he produces a .266/.343/.407 slash line. In AAA this season, however, he slashed .302/.381/.503, and continued his hot hitting in the majors. What changed?
In looking at news articles, it’s tough to find an explanation. He moved from the Texas Rangers system to the Marlins system this season. Was there a coach at AAA who turned him around? What did the Marlins see in this player that the Rangers missed? It’s a pretty amazing turnaround for someone at seasonal age 26.
