The Royals acquired the following players for their 2025 active roster:
- Jonathan India, designated hitter
- Carlos Estevez, closer
Another team that did oaky in 2024 that decided to mostly stand pat. India at DH does address a weak spot, as Royals designated hitters posted a .214/.280/.361 slash line in 2024, while Musing Marcels puts India at .246/.340/.394 for 2025. Batting leadoff, he should also be a big improvement over the .270 OBA in the number one slot.
The Royals still lack OBP at a number of positions, so this is a small adjustment. Still, Bobby Witt Jr.‘s power should do more damage with India batting in front of him.
Estevez’s profile changes from year to year. Sometimes he blow batters away with a high BABIP, sometimes he pitches more to contract with a low BABIP. Right now, he projects to the latter, which may be correct given the Royals strong defense.
The Royals did very little, but they did improve a team that made the playoffs in 2024.
