The Mariners take a comfortable 8 1/2 game lead in the AL West after they complete a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers with a 5-0 victory on Sunday. Each of the three starting pitchers for Seattle collected a win, the group combining to allow three runs, two earned, in 20 innings. They walked three and struck out 22.
The team, now 43-31 are winning in a low run environment. The team scores 3.89 runs per game while allowing 3.64 per game. They’re Pythagorean projection gives them a .533 winning percentage while the are actually at .581. They are 17-7 in one run games, but they are also beating up on their division. The are now 18-5 against the AL West, 14-17 against the AL East and Central combined. The Mariners so far took advantage of great pitching, some good luck, and a weak division to put themselves in a very nice position for the playoffs.
