Ward Hit in the Face

A pitch got away from Alek Manoah of the Blue Jays and hit Taylor Ward of the Angels on the left side of his face, the nose or the check, sending him to the ground bleeding. Ward was down for a while, but got up to get on the cart to be taken off the field. Here’s hoping that it’s no worse than a bloody nose and a slight concussion. The Blue Jays took Manoah out of the game, as Manoah appeared very concerned with Ward’s health.

This is exactly why I don’t like pitcher intentionally throwing at batters. Manoah used a pitch that moves in on right-handed batters, and it moved too much. If you’re aiming for a batter’s back, why would you think you’re so perfect that you don’t hit someone in the head?

The Angels lead the Blue Jays 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
