Best Batter Today

Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals extends his lead in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings to 24 points as he collects a home run and two walks in a 14-5 blowout of the Cubs. Goldschmidt extended his hit streak to 25 games as well. I suspect that it is unusual for a player to hit in 25 straight games and not have the longest active hit streak.

Mookie Betts of the Dodgers remains in second place with a one for four in a 6-1 win over the Mets.

Bryce Harper of the Phillies moves into third place as he homers twice in a 10-0 win over the Angles. New manager Rob Thomson is 1-0.

Here comes the Judge as Aaron Judge of the Yankees goes four for five with his twentieth home run of the season in a 13-0 drubbing of the Tigers. He moves into fourth place. Judge is now on a pace for 62 home runs, but the probability of Judge breaking the single season AL record is around .002.

Jose Ramirez of the Guardians stands fifth as he goes two for five with a double in a 6-3 win over the Orioles. Ramirez now owns twenty-nine extra base hits on the season.

The best game score of the day goes to Lane Thomas of the Nationals. He posts a three for five night, all three hits home runs for a score of 86. Washington beats the Reds 8-5. Thomas, in his career, shows Ken Phelps tendencies. He draws a lot of walks, so his OBP is okay, but he strikes out a ton, so his BA is terrible. He hasn’t shown the Phelps power, so maybe this game showed that is possible as well.
