The Baseball Musings World Series preview contained this:
Extra-base hits matter in the post season. Most teams that get this far employee good pitchers, making runs scarce. The more efficiently teams produce runs, the more likely they are to score a few, and extra-base hits in general lead to efficient offenses.

That was the story of the series between the Braves and the Astros. Houston batters posted a .224/.298/.299 slash line. The Braves pitchers prevented hits and walks, and the Astros generated little power with their hits. Only ten of their 45 hits went for extra-bases, and only two of those were home runs. Meanwhile, Braves batters posted a .239/.303/.443 slash line. Note the BA and OBP are not that much better than the Astros. Atlanta, however, saw nineteen of their 48 hits go for extra bases, eleven of them home runs.
Neither team hit well with men in scoring position, as it is tough to put together a long offensive sequence against good pitching. Doubles and homers can score runners from first base, and the Braves doing that batter brought home the title.
