The Indians just found out Austin Kearns was arrested and charged with a DUI a few days before reporting to camp:
The club was not aware of Kearns’ arrest until it was reported Monday by the Jessamine (Ky.) Journal. A team spokesman said the Indians have since spoken with the 30-year-old Kearns about the incident.
According to the paper, Kearns was arrested after being stopped by an off-duty Lexington police officer, who said Kearns was “flashing his headlights and weaving” in a 2007 Cadillac Escalade. Kearns posted bond and has a court appearance scheduled for March 10.
How was he going to explain the day off?

Apparently, he doesn’t have to show up at the appearance. His attorney will be there, and he doesn’t miss a day of training. But keeping this from the team is still a no-no, no?
Bad that he got the DUI. Worse that he didn’t notify the team. Still worse is Kearns not realizing DUI arrests are on the public record; trying to hide it (and I understand the embarrassment factor) is downright stupid.
