Maybin? Maybin Not

The Marlins trade Cameron Maybin to the San Diego Padres:

The Padres have agreed to acquire center fielder Cameron Maybin from the Marlins for right-handed relievers Ryan Webb and Edwin Mujica. The deal is pending physicals.

So within a few days the Marlins rid themselves of the two players they acquired for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. So much for raiding other teams for prospects. Maybin turned out to be a triple threat, with a low BA, OBP and slugging percentage during his time in the majors. He’ll be 24 in 2011, so there is still time for him to be a late bloomer. I suspect the Padres like the idea that he can patrol the outfield well at PETCO Park.

Mujica is a low walk pitcher who does give up home runs. Webb will be 25 in 2011, and gained some control in 2011. This deal might be okay for the Marlins.

The Marlins trades have been horrible the last few years.
    The “prospects” have been busts.
The last decent one was Beckert for Rameriz & all.
By the time they move to the new stadium they will have very little chance of competing.
