West Coast Roundup

The Padres got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Arizona came roaring back with four runs in the bottom of the inning and kept up the heat as the Diamondbacks win 7-2. Mark Reynolds did the damage for Arizona with three hits, two homers and five RBI. San Diego has now lost five in a row, scoring just 10 runs during the losing streak while allowing 29.

The biggest beneficiary of the Padres losing streak, however, is the Colorado Rockies. They’ve won three in a row after downing the Giants 2-1. The Giants led 1-0 until the ninth, when a Carlos Gonzalez triple drove in the tying run, and a Freddy Sanchez error allowed Carlos to score. That puts the Rockies seven games out in the division but only 3 1/2 games back in the wild card.

That’s because the Manny-less Dodgers shut out the Phillies 3-0. Hiroki Kuroda bested Roy Halladay as Kuroda allowed one hit to Halladay’s 10. Philadelphia is back in an offensive funk, scoring 28 runs in their last 12 games.

The top four teams in the NL Wild Card race are now separated by 3 1/2 games. I smell a massive tie coming!

Let’s not forget that the Rockies SHOULD be on a 8 game winning streak if Tracy had a hint of a clue on Friday’s game.
