More Important than in Looked

Jack Cust hit a three-run homer for the Oakland Athletics in the top of the ninth inning against the Royals. It was Oakland’s third home run of the game, and extended their lead to 9-1. There’s no way any one would look at that as a clutch home run, some might even argue the player was padding his stats. On the other hand, the Royals scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, making Cust’s shot the difference in the game.

Cust came into the day with a .211 BA with runners in scoring position, and only one of his eight hits had gone for extra bases.

The Athletics sweep the Royals and have won five in a row. This got them back to .500.
