Diverse Talent

Zack Greinke pitched six strong innings, allowing two runs, one earned. He walked just one while striking out four. At 96 pitches, his day was done, leaving with a 4-2 lead.

The bullpen does not have the talent of their starter, however. Ramon Colon, Robinson Tejeda and Juan Cruz combined to allow six hits and a walk, leading to six Tigers runs. They now lead 8-4 in the top of the eighth. Like last season, a great game by Greinke doesn’t mean a win for the Royals.

I wonder why KC can’t put together a bullpen. Decent relief pitchers aren’t expensive (aside from proven closers).

Tigers really clawed back today. I wonder if Zack is destined to be another Bert Blyleven, who’s being on some bad teams leads him to have a worse than it should’ve been record.

If I were a salesman for the mafia, I’d be contacting Zack after every one of his starts, “Your first hit is half price. Come on, you know you wanna do it to somebody on your team.” He’d crack by the all star break.
