Players A to Z, Lenny DiNardo

Lenny DiNardo pitched as a starter for the Kansas City Royals in 2009. He recently signed a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics. In three of his six major league seasons, DiNardo walked more batters than he struck out, including the last two years. In each of those seasons, his ERA was over 7.00. Over the last two seasons he pitched just 44 1/3 innings combined, walking 28 and striking out 20. At age 30, he’ll have to totally adjust the way he pitches to be successful.

DiNardo hasn’t pitched well since he abandoned his slider in the 2006 season. With a slow fastball (mid 80s), Lenny should think about throwing a really slow pitch to batters, like Doug Jones. If he can constantly keep getting batters to swing early, he might have a chance to stick in the majors.
