The Mariners starter George Kirby allowed eight runs to the Rays in two innings as Tampa Bay leads the game 9-0 after five innings. Pitching was supposed to be the strength of the team, but August 13th it’s been a weakness. In that time the Mariners stand 6-13, tied with the Guardians and Twins (coming into today) for worst record in the majors. The starters gave up power, with a .492 slugging percentage allowed, but the relievers have not closed the door. They allowed .302/.363/.465 slash line, putting way too many batters on base. With the Twins and Guardians leading tonight, the Mariners might be all alone at the bottom come the morning.
