Best Batter Today

Once again, the closeness at the top of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings leads to more churn. Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino of the Royals now rank one and four respectively after a 7-0 White Sox win. Witt collected one of two Royals hits on the evening, his 41st double, while Pasquantino went 0 for 4.

Christian Yelich and Brice Turang of the Brewers now rank two and three respectively as Milwaukee defeated Arizona 7-5. Yelich went two for two with two RBI, while Turang posted a one for four out of the leadoff slot.

Corey Seager of the Rangers rounds out the top five after an 0 for 4 in a 4-0 Angels victory.

The highest game score of the day belonged to Junior Caminero of the Rays, an 87. He went four for five with a double and two home runs, bringing his homer total for the season to 39. He ranks sixth in the majors in that category, and now ranks eight in the batters list. That’s eight spots ahead of Cal Raleigh of the Mariners, who hit his 50th home run of the season in a 9-6 win over the Padres. It’s the 51st time a player reached 50 home runs in a season. Since Babe Ruth first broke that barrier in 1920, it happens about twice every five seasons. It looks like we may get multiple 50 homer seasons again this year.
