The Blue Jays and Jose Berrios take on the Phillies and ace Zack Wheeler. The teams are on different trajectories. Since May 28, the Blue Jays own a 12-4 record, .750. That’s the highest winning percentage in the majors and moved them into a tie with the Rays for first place in the AL Wild Card race. The Phillies stand 6-10 in that time. They also sit atop the NL Wild Card race.
Berrios stands as Mr. No Decision this season, 2-2 in fourteen starts. A big part of that comes from the Blue Jays bullpen which owns a 5.21 ERA in Berrios’ starts and blew five save opportunities. Wheeler, at seasonal age 35, owns a K per 9 of 11.09. If that holds up, it would be the best single season mark of his career.
The Padres finish their series against the Diamondbacks with Nick Pivetta facing Merrill Kelly. After a great start to the season, Pivetta comes off two poor starts in a row. He allowed 10 runs, 9 earned in his last 10 innings as the opposition collected 14 hits against him. Kelly heads in the opposite direction, with no runs allowed in his last two starts and just five hits given up in 13 innings.
Enjoy!
