Games of the Day

The Royals and White Sox see a pair of veteran starters square off as Michael Wacha takes the hill against Adrian Houser. Wacha owns a 2.88 ERA in twelve starts, but averages less than six innings per start. The Royals do a good job of not letting him get in trouble. Houser brings a 1.47 ERA into his fourth start of the season, covering 18 1/3 innings. He completed at least six innings in each start, and has yet to allow a home run.

The Padres continue their series at the Brewers as Stephen Kolek faces Jose Quintana. Koleck posted a 5.21 ERA as a rookie in 2024, pitching entirely in relief. The Padres returned him to a starting role in 2025, and he responded with a 3.47 ERA. Note, however, that his walks are up and his strikeouts are down, so his ERA and FIPs inverted this season, bad luck turning into good luck. Quintana, for the second season in a row, recorded a low opposition BABIP. It came in at .266 in 2024, .265 in 2025.

Finally, the Red Sox try to even their series with the Yankees as Garrett Crochet battles Ryan Yarbrough. Crochet does an excellent job of limiting extra-base hits, especially since he makes Fenway Park his home. He allowed just nine doubles and seven home runs in 82 innings. Yarbrough seems to be part of a trend of pitchers without especially high K rates limiting hits. Are we seeing more pitchers rather than throwers?

Enjoy!
