The top five in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings remained stable for the second day in a row. Aaron Judge stayed atop the leaderboard with a two for four, putting his batting average at .389. The Guardians took the game 4-0. In calculating the probabilities of Judge hitting .400 for the season, I make two estimates of Judge’s intrinsic batting average, based on a starting point of .293 from the Musings Marcels. Those two have stabilized at .327 and .323. If we split the difference, that’s .325. The current estimate for remaining at bats stands at 384, so Judge would be expected to collect another 125 hits this season. That would put him at 213 for 610 on the season, or .349. We’ll see how close he comes to that estimate.
In the same game, Jose Ramirez of the Guardians went one for five with a double to hold third place.
Cal Raleigh of the Mariners went two for four with a double in a 3-2 Orioles win, as Baltimore tries to turn their season around with their fifth win in a row. Raleigh remains in second place. This was one of seven one-run games played on Wednesday.
Kyle Tucker of the Cubs did not play due to injury and remained in fifth place.
The Mets beat the Dodgers 6-1, Shohei Ohtani posting a two for four game to hold fourth place. Pete Alonso of the Mets went two for four with five RBI, both hits home runs, for a game score of 74 tied for the highest of the day. Alonso occupied a spot in the top five for a while this season, and now ranks 17th.
Brandon Lowe of the Rays also posted a 74, going three for four with a double and a home run in a 5-4 win over the Rangers. Lowe’s batting average and power are decently in line with his career, but his OBP stands at .302. He’s batting at the top of the order, so Tampa Bay should hope this is the start of him reaching base more often.

Thanks for doing this every day. I find it fascinating where hitters rank, some surprisingly high, some surprisingly low – a lot of guys that casual fans consider top hitters are well down the list.
As a Tiger fan, I am pleasantly surprised at how good Gleybar Torres is now that I’m watching him regularly, and that’s reflected here.
