Sarcasm

Former pitcher Brandon McCarthy takes to X:

Not all the replies understood this:

The last repeat World Series Champion happened in the 20th century.

In fairness to the salary cap people, the Yankees in the late 1990s were able to use their financial clout to keep their string going, although the core of the team was built through traditional draft and trade. Note that the Braves of this period were as dominant at the division level, but they simply let their free agents go, and always found a way to replace weak spots year to year.

Note also that in the 1990s, the Dodgers produced five straight Jackie Robinson Rookies of the Year, but that did not lead to a championship. The Indians went on a great run by drafting well, signing youngsters long term, and trading those contracts well.

So while the current revenue sharing emerged as a reaction to the Yankees dominance, teams were already finding long term success in many different ways.

The players will not want a salary cap. They may want a higher floor than already exists.
