It’s a rare player that retires on top, but Buster Posey decided to do just that:
San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will announce his retirement from baseball on Thursday, according to a report from The Athletic.
Posey, 34, has played his entire 12-year career in San Francisco, helping the team with three World Series titles, in 2010, 2012 and 2014. He is the only player still on the Giants who played on all three title-winning teams.

Posey posted a 4.9 fWAR in 2021, doing well both offensively and defensively. With twins at home, and a seasonal age 34 body with catcher wear and tear on it, Posey likely made the right decision. He has nothing left to prove and a family to raise. Best of luck to the all-time great.
His early departure may put a damper on this Hall of Fame case, however. We shall see.
