The Yankees find themselves 4 1/2 games behind the surging Rays as Tampa Bay opens a series in New York. Rich Hill takes on Jameson Taillon. Hill allowed just 36 hits in 52 innings, compensating for a high number of those hits going for extra bases. Taillon keeps batters off base, allowing a .302 OBP, but with a slugging average against of .528 with men on base, the few baserunners come around to score often.
On the west coast, the Cardinals send Cy Young candidate John Flaherty against the Dodgers and Trevor Bauer. Flaherty’s one loss this season came on the road, where is ERA is 3.94, compared to 1.44 at home. Bauer allowed a 0.90 ERA in 20 innings at Dodger Stadium this year.
