Matt Calkins calls for the benching of Felix Hernandez:
The Mariners can’t put Hernandez back on the mound again this season. His command is too spotty, his results are too inconsistent, his confidence is too shaky. It’s hard to write that about the organization’s’ best pitcher of the millennium — particularly when that pitcher has been all class throughout his 14-year postseason pursuit.
But at this point, Felix makes the M’s too vulnerable. I’m not even sure he would argue otherwise.
It’s tough to look at his recent outings and find anything positive. His strikeouts are too low, and his walks and home runs too high. He’s given up 32 hits in 23 2/3 innings. It’s tough to believe he is healthy, but if he doesn’t have anything wrong with him, it looks like his career is close to over.

Silly. Before this rough 3 game stretch he had a 4.09 ERA in his previous 8 starts. He is only 32. No longer a star but too early to call it a career.
He has pitched well at home and against good teams.
See, CC. Needs a couple of years to figure out how to transition from fireballer to finess pitcher.
