Evan Longoria needs surgery on his fractured hand and will miss up to two months of games:
Longoria fractured the fifth metacarpal in his hand in the fourth inning of the Giants’ 16-inning win over the Marlins on Thursday. He stayed in the game as a runner before he was erased on a double play. Alan Hanson replaced Longoria on defense.
Longoria ranks near the bottom of the pack in OBP as a third baseman. His main strength this season was extra-base hits. I don’t think his offense will be that difficult to replace.
