One More Out

Stephen Strasburg retired nine of the first ten Mets batters, the one reaching on a walk. That gives Strasburg 8 9 2/3 no-hit innings since returning from the disabled list. If he gets the first out in the fourth without allowing a hit, he will have pitched the moral equivalent of a no-hitter. Washington leads New York 3-0 in the top of the fourth. Strasburg struck out five of the nine batters making outs.

Update: Granderson walks to start the fourth inning for the Mets. He walked in the first inning as well.

Update: Juan Lagares hits a broken bat line out to shortstop, and Strasburg gets 27 outs without allowing a hit. Wilson Ramos gets hit with the broken barrel of the bat in the ribs, but stays in the game.

Update and Correction: I can’t add. This all happened last inning. Strasburg is now up to 10 hitless innings since returning.

Update: Strasburg finishes the fourth with the no-hitter intact. Stay tuned.

Update: Noah Syndergaard leaves with game with two out in the top of the fifth. Catcher Rene Rivera noticed something, called out the manager and Terry Collins took him out of the game. A slow motion replay of the last pitch showed Syndergaard wincing at the end. With his bone spur, the Mets don’t want to take a chance losing another pitcher.

Yoenis Cespedes also left the game with an injury.

Update: Asdrubal Cabrera leads off the bottom of the fifth inning with a home run to end Strasburg’s hitless streak. The Nationals lead 3-1.
