The Dodgers and Reds start the day with Zack Greinke taking on Anthony DeSclafani. Greinke held the Reds to one run in seven innings the first time he faced the team. DeSclafani owns a 5.85 ERA at home, where he allowed 10 of his 15 home runs.
The Blue Jays and Rangers finish their series with Marco Estrada facing Yovani Gallardo. Estrada has a very small platoon difference this season. Lefties are hitting .214/.277/.373 against the right-handed pitcher, while righties are hitting .208/.276/.363. Gallardo is riding the Rangers run support as he is 3-1 since the All-Star break despite a 5.25 ERA. The Rangers won two of three games in which he allowed five runs.
Dan Haren and Madison Bumgarner finish the afternoon as the Cubs play the Giants. Haren owns a 6.05 ERA since joining the Cubs, giving up seven home runs in 19 1/3 innings. Bumgarner goes for his 16th win and a perfect 5-0 August.
Finally, Tommy Milone leads the Twins against the Rays in an important game in the wild card race. Drew Smyly hurls for the Rays. Milone pitched well on the road this season with a 3.30 ERA, striking out 38 in 46 1/3 innings. Smyly allowed six home runs in 26 1/3 innings, but walked just 5 while striking out 27.
