Hotter Earlier

Nelson Cruz hit his MLB leading 16th home run Tuesday night in his old haunt of Baltimore. Cruz slugged well for the Orioles at the start of 2014, but his hot streak came later. At the same point in the season, which would be through May 13, 2014, Cruz had hit ten home runs with a .271/.342/.536 slash line. Those were excellent numbers. For the rest of May he hit ten more home runs, with a .413/.467/.984 slash line. With a 2 for 3 so far this evening, he owns a .347/.400/.714 line.

At the end of May 2014 he had hit enough home runs to have a shot at Roger Maris‘s single season AL record. He reverted to his mean, however, and ended up with 40 for the year. The Mariners will take that number.

The Orioles lead the Mariners 7-4 in the top of the seventh.
