Thumbs Down

Bryce Harper needs surgery on his thumb:

Nationals left fielder Bryce Harper will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb and could miss more than two months, according to a person familiar with the situation.
Harper visited Dr. Thomas Graham at the Cleveland Clinic on Monday for a final opinion on his battered left thumb, which had already landed him on the Nationals’ crowded disabled list. The diagnosis confirmed the Nationals’ worst fear and will leave their already diminished lineup without one of its best players.

It’s a tough loss, and the Nationals certainly had their share of injuries the last few years. Luckily, they have a pitching staff that is capable of winning with a diminished offense.

Wow–that heavy handed d*** display by Williams a few days ago sure paid quick dividends.* I hope it’s worth it to the Nationals, because listening to online idiots talking about how Harper is a “failure” at 21 certainly isn’t worth it from my perspective as a fan of baseball history and what a player of Harper’s caliber could mean to it if the idiots don’t kill his career.

*–yes, it might have happened anyway given the player involved: that just demonstrates how pointless and stupid the move was in the first place.
