Massive Tie Scenario

It was a mixed day for the massive tie scenario in the National League Wild Card race. Milwuakee and Philadelphia gained 1/2 game on the Dodgers, who split a double header with the Nationals. They kept pace with the Cardinals, who pitched a shutout against the Astros. The Pirates would slip under .500 with a loss tonight, and now occupy the fifth slot in this race.

The most wins that would produce a five-way tie for the NL Wild Card stays at 88, with the following getting the teams there:

  • Pirates 14-0
  • Phillies 13-0
  • Brewers 12-2
  • Dodgers 11-2
  • Cardinals 9-4

The Tigers brought the Athletics back to the pack, but the Yankees swept a double header to retake the second best record in the American League, and the Orioles won another close, extra-inning game to keep pace. The Rays beat Boston big, but the Angels fell to Texas. We’re much more likely to get a tie for the AL East title with the loser going into the wild card game.

The the most wins for a massive tie in the American League remains at 92.

  • Rays 13-0
  • Tigers 13-1
  • Angels 11-2
  • Athletics 8-6
  • Orioles 7-6
  • Yankees 7-7

For today, these are the best outcomes to tighten the races:

  • Oakland loses to Detroit
  • St. Louis falls to Houston
  • Pittsburgh defeats Milwaukee.
  • The New York Yankees lose to Toronto
  • Los Angeles loses to Washington
  • Philadelphia defeats the New York Mets
  • Tampa Bay beats Boston
  • LAnaheim beats Texas
