The Cubs placed Ryan Dempster on the disabled list:

Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quadriceps.

Chicago also recalled outfielder Tony Campana from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday.

Dempster was off to a good start with a 1.33 ERA, although he did not have a win in three starts. Matt Garza and Ryan gave the Cubs a very good 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.

Meanwhile, Chicago looks close to trading Marlon Byrd to the outfield depleted Red Sox.
