Bob McManaman wonders if Paul Goldschmidt will be the Diamondbacks first long-term solution at first base:
Travis Lee was fun for the first couple years, but it’s been a steady stream of Tom, Dick and Harrys ever since. Erubiel Durazo didn’t last long, and the Diamondbacks brought in Mark Grace at the end of his career.
Lyle Overbay was traded away soon after reaching the majors, Richie Sexson lasted half a season, and after a short run with Conor Jackson, Arizona turned to the likes of Tony Clark, Adam LaRoche and Juan Miranda.
First base has been more like a motel than a real home for anyone the organization has tried to put there. They come and they go, it’s that simple.
Of players who came to the plate at least 500 times as an Arizona first baseman, Greg Colbrunn produced the best, but Connor Jackson was the only person even close to a long-term solution. Most of them played well offensively, however. It’s not such a bad strategy to spend money on other positions and fill in first with a capable offensive player.

I believe that if Goldschmidt isn’t long term, they will be making a huge mistake??
