Marcum Making his Mark

With one out in the seventh, Vlad Guerrero singles off Shaun Marcum, the first hit of the day off the Toronto righty. He had just walked Josh Hamilton, the third Ranger to reach base (HBP and error). After a good 2009, Marcum looks like he’s ready to improve on that. He’s struck out six so far as he tries to hold on to a 3-0 lead.

Update: It all falls apart quickly for Marcum as Nelson Cruz ties the game with a three-run homer to the opposite power alley. The pitch was a good one, down and off the outside corner of the plate, but Cruz did his best Vlad Guerrero impersonation and reached out and smacked it.

Update: Marcum gets out of the inning. He’s only given up the two hits, but the timing was poor.

Update: Neftali Feliz comes in and loads the bases with one out. Vernon Wells comes up, takes three big swings against the heat, and the third connects for an RBI single. The Blue Jays lead 4-3, and Marcum is in line for the win again. Wells is off to a great start, 3 for 4 with three RBI and a home run.
