The AL Champion Blue Jays signed free agent pitcher Dylan Cease to a seven year, $210 million contract:
With the deal, which is pending a physical, the Blue Jays add to an already formidable team that won the American League pennant and advanced to the World Series, where they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a deciding Game 7.
Cease, 29, has been a reliable front-line starter for the past five seasons, ranking fourth in that span in pitcher WAR, ahead of Tarik Skubal, Max Fried and Framber Valdez.

Cease averaged 3.9 fWAR per season over his last three years, and given his age I would expect him to produce 20.3 WAR over the life of the contract. That’s an average of 2.9 WAR per season or $10.3 million per WAR. That seems like a very reasonable contract.
Cease brings a high K rate to the Blue Jays rotation, and has been good in his career at preventing home runs. His walk rate runs a little high, but with few hits allowed his career opposition OBP stands at .308. Toronto allowed the fourth highest number of home runs in the AL in 2025, so Cease should help in that regard.
It’s a very good deal for a very good pitcher, and the two sides should be very happy.
