Games of the Day

Brayan Bello takes on Max Fried in The Bronx as Boston tries to move ahead of New York in the AL Wild Card race. Bello puts strengths against strength as he is great at limiting power and the Yankees crush the ball. Fried remains in a second half slump, allowing 36 runs, 31 earned, in his last eight starts for a 6.80 ERA. His walk and home runs rates are way up compared to earlier in the season.

The Royals visit the Tigers, with Kansas City just two games out of the third AL Wild Card slot. Ryan Bergert faces Casey Mize. Bergert strikes out a decent number of batters. Combine that with a .226 BABIP thanks to a high number of air outs, and he is a pitcher that is very tough to hit. Mize’s strength comes from limiting walks, 2.34 per 9 IP this season, 2.55 for his career.

The Dodgers lead the Padres by a game as the teams meet in San Diego. Blake Snell battles Yu Darvish. Snell does not pitch as well as his 1.80 ERA indicates. Opponents hit just .179/.294/.286 with men in scoring position, as Snell appears to be using walks defensively in these situations. Darvish had a rougher time in his return from injury, giving up six home runs in just 37 2/3 innings.

Enjoy!
