The Astros and Red Sox get an early start in Boston as Framber Valdez takes on Lucas Giolito. Valdez looks long-term hot, as he pitched just one poor start in his last 14 appearances. He stands 10-0 with a 1.84 ERA in that span. The Red Sox now occupy the top wild card slot. Giolito turned his season around since June 10th, with a 2.17 ERA in that time.
Luis Gil returns to the Yankees rotation to try to prevent a Marlins sweep. Edward Cabrera stands in opposition. Gil struck out 24 in14 1/3 rehab innings in the minors. Cabrera, at seasonal age 27, is posting the best numbers of his career. He holds opponents to a .310 OBP and a .377 slugging percentage.
Jacob deGrom tries to get the Rangers into a tie with the Mariners as he takes on Seattle’s Logan Evans. Texas waited for the payoff from deGrom, but with him healthy owns a 10-3 record and a 2.55 ERA in 21 starts. He no longer blows away batters like he once did, but he still induces weak contact, with .238 BABIP against him. Evans owns a 4.22 ERA in his rookie year. He’s been hurt by allowing eleven home runs in 64 innings.
Enjoy!
