Luis Arraez underwent thumb surgery:
Arraez said he played through the injury for the entire second half of the season. He injured it June 25 against the Washington Nationals on a headfirst slide into third base on a triple.

That makes his batting title even more impressive. I think it also explains why Arraez sat so much against left-handed pitchers. It was a way of giving the thumb some time to recover.
