The hit fest of the day probably takes place in Washington where the Rockies send Cal Quantrill against the Nationals and Patrick Corbin. Quantrill pitched worse on the road this season with a 4.06 ERA at home and a 5.10 ERA on the road. Corbin allowed 168 hits this season, the most in the NL.
The Rays and A’s offer a good pitching matchup with Jeffrey Springs taking on Osvaldo Bido of the Athletics. Springs make his fifth start of the season after returning from Tommy John surgery. He owns a 3.86 ERA, but his five walks and 21 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings is a sign that his recovery went well. Bido dropped his ERA over two runs compared to his first MLB season in 2023. He’s allowing fewer hits and home runs.
Finally, the Mets face the Padres in San Diego with Luis Severino and Dylan Cease taking the hill. Severino limited power this season, with the opposition slugging .375 against him compared to his career .392 mark. Cease is two wins away from tying his career single season high of 14 wins. He is second in total strikeouts and strikeouts per 9 IP in the NL.
Enjoy!
